The representatives of Győr and Dunaszerdahely signed a cooperation agreement in the morning on Monday that is a kind of culmination of the good old relationship between the two settlements.
Although Slovakia and Hungary are members of the European Union, the border separates the two countries; it does not connect but hinders the economic development of the region, which can be overcome only with cooperation.
The main aim of the project is infrastructural development across the borders as well as better utilization of the cultural values and heritage of Győr and Dunaszerdahely and their vicinity by developing the cultural repertoire of the city, partly depending on the innovative cooperation of local artists.
„CULTACROSS project is a culmination of the good old relationship that could realize within the frames of Arrabona EGTC” – summarized Dr. Hájos Zoltán, the mayor of Dunaszerdahely. He added that their aim is to provide an opportunity for the cultural organizations and groups of Dunaszerdahely, which are operating at a high quality, to introduce themselves in Győr, and vice versa. – We must utilize the mutual benefits and opportunities, which can be realized only if we communicate with each other and exchange ideas. Similarly, we are applying for a common project that could bring success for both of us. The current project is an example for that – Borkai Zsolt, the mayor of Győr, highlighted the main point of the cooperation across borders.
Borkai Zsolt also stressed: the city of Győr intends to initiate successful projects with the Highlands not only in the past, but in the future as well: „There are a lot of areas, where we will be able to become successful together via strengthening each other.”
The CULTACROSS programme is well related to the tender European Capital of Culture – Győr 2023 that is supported by Dunaszerdahely as well.
