We love the flow and the fact that many people join in this. We would like more and more people to know that Győr is applying for the title ’European Capital of Culture’, and therefore we are trying to leave no stone/water drop unturned. It can happen that somebody gets to us in the most unexpected way, or that we knock on a special door.
At the cultural institutes of Győr or at the Visitors’ Centre many of you have surely met the brochure that is not only full of useful information but you can even win with it.
We are absolutely proud of the cover-picture. Particularly because it is due to a coincidence: Annamária Rácz, the head of the Győr2023 project found Emánuel Kántor’s photo on the Instagram. After some messages and minimal modifications the picture was ready. We asked the photographer what he thought about the request.
Gy2023: When did you start taking photos?
K.E.: Though I only started taking photos 2 years ago, it has interested me for a long time already and I decided to try it. Since then it has become one of my favourite activities, I fell in love with it instantly.
Gy2023: What are your favourite topics?
K.E.: I gladly record any kind of topics, but what I love most is taking landscape-photos. I also like taking city-pictures and portraits – this means another kind of challenge for me.
Gy2023: Do you often participate in applications?
K.E.: Previously I had some attempts, but in the lack of experience I did not really succeed. However, it has not discouraged me, and by and by I received different requests. I always consider these as a huge appreciation. I would like to participate in further applications, particularly in Győr.
Gy2023: What did you think when Annamari came to you with this request?
K.E.: I was very glad that she came to me with this request, it was a huge positive acknowledgement for me that the City Marketing Department of the Municipality found my photo good enough to use it in their bid.
Gy2023: How much additional work/modifications did you have to do on the photo to finalise it?
K.E.: The most difficult part of preparing this picture was to make the proper cut and to ensure that the boat is in the proper incline and on the best point. My job was made more difficult by the fact that I had to hold the camera close to the water, so I had to take quite an acrobatic pose. The post-production work was much easier, but in my opinion it determines the success considerably.
Gy2023: What does this opportunity mean for you? What is your opinion about the fact that Győr is applying for the title ‘European Capital of Culture’?
K.E.: For me this is an unbelievable opportunity, and as I mentioned it, on the one hand it is a huge appreciation. On the other hand, Győr is my favourite city, so I am very glad to be part of this application.
We are also glad that you became part of it. We hope that our brochure decorated by Emánuel’s photo will bring you luck, too!
