Angels in the city – this is the name of the charity campaign, launched once again by the Győr Shopping Streets Foundation, founded by the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Chamber of Trade and Industry. The aim of the program is to provide an opportunity for the representatives of industry and trade to show that Győr is a fascinating trade centre, where shops and customers are deeply involved in corporate social responsibility. Shops and service providers in the city are also involved in the communication of our European Cultural Capital application, as we can see many Győr 2023 stickers and small boats in many shopwindows.
Tibor Kocsis, deputy chair of the Győr Shopping Streets Foundation said the point of the campaign is to place donation jars in almost 20 shops participating in the campaign between November 29 and December 23, where shoppers wishing to donate can place the change or any sum they consider fit.
From the sum raised the Foundation wishes to support students with less opportunities who wish to learn a trade, in the form of a grant. This year many applications were submitted, therefore the management of the Foundation decided they would support four students, primarily the 15 year old girl in a deprived situation who wants to become a hairstylist and studies in the Kossuth Lajos Secondary School and Dormitory of the Győr VET Centre for Service Provision.
“Besides we support the application of three other schools by involving further partner organizations and using our connections to help the students participating in the program, living in difficult circumstances”, Tibor Kocsis emphasized.
Customers who donate are given a small angel figure in the shops, provided by the Foundation, to thank for their help, according to the slogan of the program Angels in the city.
